National Refugee Week

Monday 15th June to Sunday 21st June 2020

This year’s theme for National Refugee week is “Acts of the imagination”. Our friends at the Zephaniah Trust have lots of information, activities and resources for you to enjoy:

Refugee Week resource pack – available now.
Packed full of ideas for families, schools and groups of friends to explore themes of sanctuary in creative ways, including age-appropriate ideas for children from Early Years right through to secondary school – written by our storyteller, Julie Wilkinson, who has almost a decade of experience running creative education sessions in schools on the topic of refugees. You can download it from our website here: https://zephaniahtrust.files.wordpress.com/2020/06/refugee-week-resource-pack-2020.pdf . Please share it around your church communities too.

Monday 15th June 7.30pm – Refugee Voices
If you have never had an opportunity to see Refugee Voices – the stories of three refugees who lived in or passed through Bradford – (or even if you have) now is your chance to see it from the comfort of your own living room. This socially-distanced performance will be shown online at www.youtube.com/zephstoryteller.

Monday 15th June – Creative Writing Challenge launch.
We’re inviting you to make a creative response to Refugee Week and help us build up a community anthology of writing and art. All you have to do is write something – a poem, a story, a prose piece, a song, whatever you like! – inspired by or starting with the phrase: “If I were to build a Home, I would…” You could even create a piece of artwork if writing isn’t for you! Then, send your finished pieces to us at zephstoryteller@gmail.com – we’ll be sharing them on our social media pages and website throughout the week. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Wednesday 17th 7.30pm – Host a Virtual Discussion Group (or whenever it’s convenient for you).
This is a chance to engage with the issues around refugees and asylum seekers with your friends, via video chat. We provide the resources that you’ll need. Interested? The resource pack with everything you need to host your discussion is available on our website at https://zephaniah.org.uk/refugee-week/

Sunday 21st June 4.00pm – Online Family Worship for Refugee Week.
Join the whole Zephaniah Team at www.youtube.com/zephstoryteller for a time of family worship marking the end of Refugee Week.

More Information
If you want to know more about any of these events, then drop us a line. There is a flyer for all the events below. Share it with your friends. The benefit of an online event is that geography is no object, and we hope friends from across the country will be able to join in.
